Android Security Problem with Public WiFi Networks

According to a study that was conducted at the University of Ulm in Germany, 99.7% of Android computers (smartphones and tablets) have safety problems are exposed when connected to a public WiFi network.

This security problem allows malicious users to access personal data or information we have stored on our computers, without even knowing it.

First of all let’s clarify that the new Android version 2.3.4 fixes all these problems, but all other previous versions will find this little problem of security, so it is recommended that you leave to use a pubic network disable automatic synchronization.

The security problem, as explained in this study carried out in Germany, lies in the way the Android OS handles authTokens to log into Google services like Gmail, Calendar, Docs and others, and how do that synchronization so popular and great that all we like.

Apparently these tokens themselves are not encrypted the specific equipment to which they are addressed, but remain as a “turning” allowing malicious users to obtain and access our Google accounts, which must be very careful from where we connected for more than our super-secure passwords are provided.
